15-Year Anniversary of Wireshark (formerly Ethereal)

On July 14, 1998, Gerald Combs released Ethereal - an Open Source network analyzer with somewhat limited functionality (no IPX or Token Ring dissectors - imagine that!). Read the history here.

Now known as Wireshark, this tool has become the industry standard for protocol analysis with over 500,000 downloads per month. .

For the 15-year anniversary, Gerald's wife, Karen, along with Janice Spampinato (RPM Business Development Manager at Riverbed), and I decided to pull back the curtain on Gerald Combs. Who is this guy? What made him develop Ethereal in the first place.

As the video says, the answer was shocking - potentially rocking the technology industry to its core.
